Statistics:

1: Black single mothers, are disproportionately represented in the homeless population. Although Black people make up about 13% of the U.S. population, they account for approximately 40% of the homeless population.

2: Single mothers, particularly those who are Black, are highly represented among homeless families. Families with children represent about one-third of the homeless population, and single mothers head the majority of these families. Black families, led predominantly by single mothers, are more likely to experience homelessness than their white counterparts.

3: Black single mothers face higher rates of poverty and housing insecurity, which are key drivers of homelessness. They often have lower incomes, less access to affordable housing, and face systemic barriers that contribute to their vulnerability.

4: Many Black single mothers work low-wage jobs that do not provide sufficient income to afford stable housing.

5: Black women, including single mothers, are at higher risk of domestic violence, which is a leading cause of homelessness among women and families.

6:  As of recent years, about 30% of Black children live in poverty, compared to around 10% of white children. This economic disparity contributes to the high rates of homelessness among Black single mothers and their children. Homelessness among Black single mothers is more pronounced in urban areas, where housing costs are higher, and the competition for affordable housing is more intense.

OUR GOAL

Starting in 2025, our goal is to provide temporary hotel housing for black single mothers and their families to assist them in regaining stability.
